June 2009 Newsletter

Wow! What a scorcher! Hope you and your horse/pony enjoyed the lovely weather in June as much as we all did at Moat Farm. If the weather was like that all the time, then we would never want to go abroad! The beach has been enjoyed by many of our riders this month including several guests in the farmhouse who enjoyed beach campfires – some even cooked their evening meals on a campfire!

The demand for hacks out on the beach has rocketed and we are so pleased that more and more people are coming to enjoy the very special, almost private section of beach that we have at Moat. We were pleased to welcome some American guests only a few days ago who couldn’t believe their luck in finding such peaceful surroundings and in such glorious weather. They enjoyed a pleasant ride out on Winston Churchill and Frank Bruno.

Do please come and see us and enjoy a hack out – £25.00 per person per hour- groups limited to four. We can offer a hack out for all abilities, whether it be lead rein for inexperienced riders, or a lovely canter for those who want to do a bit more.

Speaking of Frank Bruno, he is really coming into his own now and is incredibly sociable and friendly and really enjoying giving lessons. His confidence has increased enormously and I am sure he goes back to the herd each evening and says “See! I am giving lessons now!”.

I am more than pleased to report that Charlie Watts has been given the “all clear” by Tim Boardman and is now back in work. We all breathed a sigh of relief and not just Charlie! He really did not like box rest, and didn’t he make that obvious to us all!

We have so many plans for July. Firstly, we will be having an Open Day on Saturday 18th July between 12noon and 4.00pm. Hilary Wakefield from the National Pony Club is going to come along to give a short presentation at 2.00pm about her work. We are really excited to have become a National Pony Club Centre. Now all children, whether they have a pony of their own or not, can enjoy lessons in all aspects of ponycare and work towards achievement badges. Hilary will explain all on the 18th!! We also thought it would be an ideal opportunity to encourage those who haven’t yet visited Moat Farm Equestrian to come along and have a look around. We will be on hand to show people around and answer any queries you may have. Light refreshments will be available. Do please come along and support us, bring your friends too!

We have our first booking for a Shetland Pony Party in July and we are all looking forward to it. Eight children aged between 5 and 10 years old are coming to us for a two hour party which will involve grooming the shetlands, games in the indoor school and weather permitting, a shetland pony ride on the beach. We have a lovely selection of ribbons and hair ornaments for the shetlands! I must remember to take some pictures. If you are thinking of what to do for your child’s party, then we think this is an ideal solution. We can accommodate eight children at a time at a price of £15.00 each for two hours excluding food or £20 each for two hours including food. Our friends, Martin and Helen Barlow of the Old Mill and the Farm Shop at Baycliff will be providing the catering and Helen can provide a Shetland Pony Birthday Cake if required!

We are also introducing this month “Care for a Shettie for half a day”. Something a bit different for the school holidays. Come and look after Tosca, Basset, Samantha or Marjorie, under our supervision, groom them, muck out their stable, clean their tack and have a ride on the beach or in the school, before making sure your shettie is tucked up for the night. The shetties are wonderful entertainment and Mums and Dads will have the security of knowing their child is supervised whilst having a great time! We aim to offer this new venture at a cost of £40.00 for four hours.

We will be offering once again the very popular Stable Managment Courses from Monday 3rd August 2009 with Level 2 of the BHS Horse Owner’s Certificate commencing at 5.30pm until 7.00pm and Level 1 commencing at 7.00pm until 8.30pm. The cost is £150 per person for the six week course and this includes all your notes, folders, exam fees and tuition throughout. Everyone who has attended the courses has found them absolutely invaluable. Whether you own your own horse, are thinking of buying one, or just want to know a bit more, we would love to see you.

Enjoy the heat! Look forward to seeing you at our Open Day.
